We study molecular mechanisms of photosynthetic energy transfer and carbon metabolism in cyanobacteria, and further apply directed evolution to evolve genetic traits for improved photosynthetic efficiency. The long term goal is to translate the knowledge and genetic traits into crops for improved photosynthesis and food production.
