Every USP Scholar is required to meet the publication requirement. The 2017-2018 USP Scholars must submit by 11:59 pm April 6, 2018 or will forfeit of the final stipend.  There are four ways to meet this requirement and therefore there is no acceptable reason all USP Scholars cannot meet this requirement by the posted deadline. They are:

1.  The best option is to be a co-author with your advisor and/or research team on a paper submitted to a professional journal.  Talk to your advisor early to determine if this is a possibility for you.  To meet this requirement, your research mentor must e-mail adonn@ufl.edu (e-mails from students will not be accepted) stating that it is their intention to include you on a paper.

For 2017-2018 Scholars:

If you will be a co-author, the paper must be submitted sometime in 2018, and this email must be received by 11:59 PM April 6, 2018.  Please note, the paper does not have to be submitted by this deadline or  accepted for publication and published.  Once it is actually submitted, you are expected to send the formal citation to adonn@ufl.edu.  If a journal article is planned but submission is not planned for 2018, you will have to select one of the other options below.

If you will not be a co-author on a paper that will be submitted in 2018, there are three other options.


2. If you will not be a coauthor on a professional publication in 2018, you must submit a research paper to JUR, by 11:59 PM April 6, 2018. No late papers will be accepted.  Your mentor must approve it before submission so plan ahead in case they are out of town or unavailable at submission time.  You must follow all of JURs deadlines and format requirements. Papers that do not meet their submission guidelines will not be accepted.  Look on the JUR site for the guidelines.  Submitting to JUR may preclude later submission to a professional journal but as each has their own regulations about previously submitted/published work, you and your research mentor will have to determine if there is a conflict. CUR and JUR staff cannot answer that as each journal has their own guidelines. Do not send your JUR paper to the CUR office.

PLEASE NOTE: you may not submit your honors thesis to JUR to meet this requirement unless it meets all JUR requirements, including the 4000 word limit.  It is acceptable to submit an edited version.

3.  If your mentor is not ready to make the data public or is planning on a journal submission after 2018, you must submit a research paper to CUR, adonn@ufl.edu, by 11:59 PM April 6, 2018. No late papers will be accepted.  Your mentor must approve it before submission so plan ahead in case they are out of town or unavailable at submission time.  You must follow all of JURs deadlines and format requirements. Papers that do not meet their submission guidelines will not be accepted.  Look on the JUR site for the guidelines.

4. If you and your mentor determine that the project did not progress to the point of meriting a journal article, you must submit an e-mail request to submit a progress report (the email  must be copied to your mentor) to adonn@ufl.edu.  If approved, the final progress report must be approved by your mentor, and detail the entire project, work completed, any results, and problems encountered and must be emailed to adonn@ufl.edu by 11:59 PM April 6, 2018. The paper should be formatted as follows:

  • Abstract and Key Words
  • Introduction
  • Methods
  • Results – if any
  • Discussion/Conclusion
  • Acknowledgements
  • Literature cited
  • Tables
  • Figures

 

Format:

  • 12 point Times New Roman
  • Text aligned to justified
  • One inch margin
  • Page numbered (title page is page 1)
  • No running headers
  • 1500 word minimum

 Change any references to High School to UF.
