1. Attend the USP orientation program.
2. Conduct research under the guidance, direction, and supervision of your faculty mentor at a schedule agreed to by your research mentor. The scope of the research project and the expectations of your performance are decided between you and your mentor. If the focus of your project changes, you will need to discuss those changes with your mentor.
3. Maintain a current e-mail account in order to get updates about the University Scholars Program. If you are not receiving any e-mails about USP, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
4. Understand that any requirements set by your college are in addition to the university-wide requirements outlined in this document.
5. Sign up for Electronic Funds Transfer on ONE.UF to receive your stipend, if you haven’t done so already. If you do not sign up for EFT, please make sure your local address stays current on ONE.UF. Otherwise, you may not receive your check when it is mailed to you. If you are an international student, you will have to work with your faculty mentor’s office manager to complete the appropriate paperwork through Tax Services to receive your funds.
6. You must be registered for at least one credit (any class) at the University of Florida during Spring and Fall in order to receive your stipends. No exceptions. These credits can be any course you are taking or undergraduate research credits. Every college has a course number for research. The course must be registered in person with the department. Some may also allow research for 0 credits.
7. For the culmination of research, scholars are expected to meet the presentation requirement and the paper requirements detailed at https://scholars.ufl.edu/scholars-responsibilities/presentation-requirement/ and https://scholars.ufl.edu/scholars-responsibilities/publication-requirement/.
8. Students not fulfilling the requirements will not receive their stipend. In the event that an early disbursement was made and the student didn't meet the requirements, the student can expect a financial hold on their academic record and may be required to repay the stipend for not completing the University Scholars Program.
You will be paid by scholarship disbursement. No paperwork needs to be completed to receive your stipend, unless you are an international student. International students must complete tax paperwork through their faculty mentor’s department.
You will receive your stipend in two payments – look on the deadlines page for specific dates. The final stipend payment will not be made unless all of the program requirements have been met by the deadlines posted. A student may not receive the stipend after graduation.
