J. Scott Angle

Dr. J. Scott Angle became Provost in January 2024, following six months as Interim Provost.

Before his appointment as Interim, he served as the Senior Vice President of the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, starting in 2020. Prior to that, he directed the USDA’s National Institute of Agriculture from 2018 to 2020, where he oversaw federal support for agricultural research initiatives at the nation’s land-grant universities.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Angle was president and CEO of the International Fertilizer Development Center, focusing on global hunger and poverty alleviation. He spent ten years as Dean and Director of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia and 24 years as a Professor of Soil Science and administrative leader at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Angle is a fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America.

He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri with an emphasis on soil microbiology. He received his B.S. and M.S. at the University of Maryland in agronomy and soil science, respectively.

His wife, Dr. Kay Kelsey, is a Professor, Evaluation Specialist and Project Manager at the IFAS Global Food Systems Institute.
