Flora Iff-Noel

Flora Iff-Noël has been an Assistant Professor in the Classics Department at the University of Florida since 2019. Her research focuses on Late Republican and Augustan poetry, especially Catullus, Propertius, and Ovid, along with Hellenistic poetry and epigrams. Her interests include ekphrasis, intertextuality, aesthetics, metapoetics, and gender studies. She earned her PhD in Classics from the Sorbonne University (Paris, France) in 2019, with a dissertation she is currently adapting into a book provisionally titled Art Illusionism in Catullus 64 and Hellenistic Epigram. An alumna of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, she has contributed to several scholarly publications such as Silves latines 2022-2023 : Catulle, Poèmes (Atlande, Paris, 2021), a textbook for post-Master’s students preparing for the agrégation in Classics. Her forthcoming article, “Inclusus aut exclusus lector ? Les postures du lecteur chez Catulle,” will appear in the proceedings of an international conference held in memory of Jacqueline Dangel. She has also published “Catullus in Late Imperial Greek Literature: The Case of Philostratus” in Dictynna. Revue de Poétique Latine (18, 2021) and “Le topos hellénistique de l’illusionnisme de l’art: mimésis et paragone” in Le Mythe de l’art antique (ed. E. Hénin and V. Naas, CNRS Éditions, Paris, 2018).
