RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Burini research program integrates three complementary research pillars: (i) elucidating host–pathogen interactions with emphasis on the mosquito as a biological system, (ii) designing and optimizing genetic tools and transgenes for precise manipulation of mosquito genomes, and (iii) developing applied strategies for population suppression and replacement. Her work spans major disease vectors, including Anopheles, Aedes, and Culex mosquitoes, targeting pathogens responsible for malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and West Nile virus.
Dr. Burini’s research also explores emerging interdisciplinary approaches, including the integration of artificial intelligence with mosquito behavior and genetic engineering to develop novel biosensing and surveillance tools. Her laboratory is committed to advancing both foundational knowledge and translational applications aimed at reducing the global burden of vector-borne diseases.
